Mobile devices are revolutionizing the way we receive information. Over 63 million Americans own mobile devices which is a overwhelming 60% increase from last year. People are doing a lot with their mobile phones and so we expect a lot from the mobile experience. They are scanning gift cards, checking flights, making reservations, chatting with friends and more. With exponential mobile web traffic growth, your business cannot afford not to have a mobile website.
Regular websites do not load well on most smartphones because of the lower resolution and download speeds. A mobile website is just a simplified version of your current website. Graphics are minimized. Images are reduced (usually by 75%). Navigation is a horizontal bar that you can scroll across. Content and submenus span the width of your screen. Sometimes, there is an option to switch between the mobile version and the original version. The best way to achieve all this is by attaching a separate stylesheet (CSS) for mobile devices.
If you have Google Analytics, you can easily view your web statistics on your mobile visitors by going to “Visitors” and then “Mobile Devices”. Below we have included a screenshot of our website’s Google Analytics for mobile devices. We never had a mobile website before so our visitors never accessed us via smartphones and tablets; hence the spike in mobile traffic after the website launch.

We decided to focus on tweeking the WordPress blog website to be compatible on iPads and iPhones since that is what the majority of our visitors are using to browse the Internet. And let’s face it, Apple rules!
